Preview: Wabaunsee Vs. Silver Lake (WBB & MBB)
Silver Lake -- Wabaunsee and Silver Lake will meet up on Thursday night for the final regular-season contests of the year. Here is what Thursday looks like:
Girls:
Class 3A No. 1 Silver Lake (18-1) vs. Wabaunsee (7-12).
Who can knock down Silver Lake from the top of the mountain? Wabaunsee? Maybe.
That upset Wabaunsee hopes to achieve will be a difficult task. These two teams met this year back on Jan. 11th, where Silver Lake won convincingly 55-23. Silver Lake center Makenzie McDaniel led the team in points and rebounds (16 pts, 10 rebounds).
Silver Lake hasn't taken a loss since Jan. 22, where the Eagles lost to Rock Creek, 60-55.
Wabaunsee has looked like a vastly improved team as of late. After two miserable losing streaks, Wabaunsee has beaten some quality teams from the Mid-East League and the Flint Hills League.
Wabaunsee is a gritty team and has shown that all year. Kaci Meseke and Karli Meseke seem to always be front and center of the intimidating defense.
Silver Lake's Kaibryn Kruger, McKinley Kruger and Mariah Farmer are lethal from the three-point line. Every opponent has had matchup problems with the trio on the outside. They always seem to create the most out of contested opportunities providing trouble for defenses.
Silver Lake's interior is just as good. McDaniel and Taylor Ross are highly physical on defense and gifted on offense in the paint.
Will Wabaunsee crash Silver Lake's party before the postseason or will Silver Lake keep proving why they are the best team in Class 3A?
Boys:
Class 2A No. 10 Wabaunsee (14-5) vs. Silver Lake (7-12)
Can Wabaunsee rebound from Tuesday's loss against St. Marys?
Wabaunsee is coming off of a tough 65-55 loss against St. Marys. Losing hasn't been much of an issue for the Chargers at all this year. With a slim five losses on the year, after each loss, Wabaunsee has answered back with a win, every single time.
Silver Lake and Wabaunsee met back on Jan. 11th in Alma, Kansas where the Wabaunsee Chargers slightly edged Silver Lake by winning 52-49.
Wabaunsee can flat out score. Cade Oliver, Eli Oliver and Brayden Meseke are stellar shooters anywhere on the court. They play a dominant defense that contributes to the success of Wabaunsee.
While Silver Lake is under an even record, they have been collectively good. Head Coach Johnny Roberts has put the Eagles in countless winning situations this entire year. There have been three times where the Eagles fell short by only three points.
Kamryn Kaniper, Brogan Renfro and the rest of the Eagles always seem to put up a fight.
Will Silver Lake be able to emerge victorious over Wabaunsee this time or does Wabaunsee end the season on a high note?
